Ragging of the first year students particularly when they are admitted afresh to this institute is illegal and completely forbidden. It is punishable with fine, or even expulsion from college and also prosecution. Ragging is defined amongst others as, “Display of disorderly conduct, an act of causing physical and psychological harm or causing apprehension or fear or shame or embarrassment. The definition also includes, “Teasing, abusing, threatening, playing practical jokes or asking students to perform something the student in ordinary course would not do”. It further includes causing injury, degrading, humiliating a fellow student and causing distress of mind or spirit.

A National Continuing Dental Education Programme was conducted by Guru Nanak Dev Dental College and Research Institute Sunam on 13th August 2013 by Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology.
Two distinguished speakers were invited for delivering guest lectures. Dr. Ashok. L Prof. and H.O.D, Bapuji Dental College and Hospital, Davanagere , Karnataka who is also President of IAOMR gave a guest lecture on the topic ‘Imaging In Oral Cancer’.
Dr. Chandramani B. More Prof. and H.OD , K M Shah Dental College & Hospital, Sumandeep Vidyapeeth University, Vadodara Gujarat.gave a lecture on topics ‘Tobacco Induced Oral Mucosal Lesions and Diagnostic Ultrasonography- Clinical Applications In Oral Medicine . The programme started with Inaugural function which was attended by Chairman Dr. Vikram Sharma, Managing Director Mr. Kamal Arora, Director Mr. Ashok Bansal, Director Mr. Aman Arora, Principal Dr. J.P.S Kalra, Vice Principal Dr. B.S Saluja, Organizing Chairman Dr. M.K Sunil, Organizing Secretary Dr. Parampal Singh, Scientific Committee Chairman Dr. Ashwarya, Treasurer Dr.Neetu.
Almost 350 delegates registered for the programme from all parts of the country and benefited .The programme highlighted the ill effects of tobacco and use of various imaging modalities to detect oral cancer. The use of ultrasonography in detection of oral lesions was excellently covered. The programme was intended to encourage all dental professionals to expand their foundations of knowledge. Scientific sessions were held and most of the delegates actively participated and the best presentations were awarded. The programme was a success and the institute will take all initatives for conducting such programme in future.
